UNEP supports a number of projects in Rwanda two of which havesignificant presence in the country. The Post Conflict EnvironmentalAssessment and thePoverty and Environment Initiative. UNEP is also actively involved inthe OneUN programme for Rwanda and is a co-chair of the programmes EnvironmentThematic Group.

UNEP in brief
UNEP’s mission is "to provide leadership andencourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring,informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality oflife without compromising that of future generations."

The organization works with many partners, including UN entities,international organizations, national governments, private sector andcivil society. UNEP's work includes:

  • Assessing global, regional and national environmental conditions and trends.
  • Developing international and national environmental agreements and legal instruments.
  • Strengthening institutions for the wise management of the environment.
  • Integrating economic development, poverty reduction and environmental protection.
  • Facilitating the transfer of knowledge and technology for sustainable development.

UNEP is committed and fully engaged in the UN system wide initiative on"Delivering as One" and in particular, contributes and provides supportto the eight One UN pilots.
