Overview

UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, works to ensure that every child is wanted, every pregnancy is healthy, every young person is HIV-free, every girl and woman is respected, and every family has a strong and stable future.

UNFPA is funded through voluntary contributions and realises an optimal budget utilisation through a strategic partnership with national constituencies that are key in the delivery of a comprehensive population and development programme.

Through its network of small but effective presence in 142 countries, UNFPA is committed to provide its donors and national partners the best of its 36 years of experience and expertise for an accountable and appropriate delivery of its assistance.

UNFPA in Rwanda

In Rwanda, UNFPA subscribes to the goals of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) by supporting the Government in its promotion of reconciliation and reduction of poverty. Support at decentralised levels is focussed in the provinces of Cyangugu, Kibuye and Umutara.

As the world’s largest organisation in the domain of population and development, UNFPA’s support to reproductive health and population programmes contribute to poverty reduction by aiming at five distinctive development objectives:

  1. Reduction of disease and mortality
  2. Reduction of unwanted pregnancies
  3. Promotion of adolescent sexual health
  4. Promotion of women’s empowerment
  5. Strengthening of the national data analysis capacities
